It is difficult to comprehend the concept of why bad things happen to good people. Some people immediately blame God when tragedy strikes. They claim that Jesus is their best friend until something goes wrong in their lives, and then all of a sudden it's God's fault. I call these people fair-weather friends. We all need to understand this very important fact. God doesn't cause the pain in our lives; pain is a result of sin. He does, however, allow us to experience trials in life to perfect our characters so that we can be drawn closer to Him. If everything were easy, we would never know our need for a Savior. It is when things are the toughest that God is the closest. Remember, it is not for us to ask why, but only to trust.
